I’ve got this real thing about hair that doesn’t feel nice. Whilst I appreciate that it’s the way hair looks that tends to come first, it’s not very nice for a boy to touch your hair and describe it with a word like ‘crispy’. I don’t want my hair to feel like a packet of Quavers. Hair is supposed to be soft and natural and lovely and wonderful. And it should definitely smell amazing.
I often won’t bother with perfume but my hair will always smell nice…perfume itself just seems risky. We’ve all gone to snog someone and then realised they smell like a horrible ex (bloody Armani Code!) or better still, discovered our Dad is now wearing the same aftershave as our ’best shag ever’ (Jean Paul Gaultier – Le Male). Gag much. I don’t want to smell like your (probably better looking) ex missus. Hair is a safer bet.
So as somebody that takes pride in having nice smelling/softly strokey hair, I had a bit of a panic attack when I came back from Mallorca to find that my tresses looked less Elle Macpherson and more Worzel Gummidge.
An accurate picture of how I looked, except my hair was longer and I am not yet this skilled at applying eyeliner.
I kept waving my hay (it basically was hay by this point) in peoples faces saying “WHAT SHOULD I DO? NO. REALLY. WHAT SHOULD I DO?” and very nearly took the kitchen scissors and chopped a good 4 inches off the bottom myself. It really did seem unsalvageable.
Suddenly all that lemon juice, seawater, chlorine and sunshine didn’t seem worth it. I was angry with myself for letting it get so epicly shit. That bloody holiday! I phoned the hairdresser and made an appointment to get it all cut off. I’d rather have short hair (the horror! the horror!) than long damaged steel wool flowing over my shoulders.
Wary that my hairdresser would tell me I was a stupid idiot fool as he shaved my head, I asked the folks at label.m for some advice.
“Before I cut all my hair off as punishment for going on holiday and having fun, do you have any intensive products that can turn back time?”
I was recommended a few things…
I started off with Intensive Repair Shampoo and Intensive Repair Conditioner. It made sense to upgrade to something super strength to rehydrate my forlorn locks. I also got my hands on their Intensive Mask. This mask is pretty incredible, it’s literally like body butter in consistency…which makes sense as it contains Amazonian cupuacu butter “to boost recovery of the hair’s natural moisture and elasticity”. I’ve never used a hair mask at home before, but as a weekly treat they’re wonderfully wonderful.
So these three products (which all smell nicer than any fancy Chanel bollocks) became my new friends in the shower.
Out of the shower I turned to these two lovelies…
I like to put something in my hair before I dry it anyway, usually I use a product by Kiehls (which is now, typically, discontinued) or Kerastase, but the label.m Leave-In Conditioner really is the best product I’ve found for massaging into the ends before blow drying. Again, it smells pretty. (It’s packed with ginger, ginseng, bergamot, juniper, mandarin orange AND vanilla.)
On days where I don’t wash my hair I started to spritz it with Protein Spray (again, especially at the ends) just so that I felt like my hair was getting some level of TLC.
The result? A near miraculous turnaround. I am seriously impressed. I feared (but truly believed) that most of my hair was beyond repair after the lemon juice/chlorine/sunshine abuse, but after using these five products religiously I was able to get away with having very little taken off of the ends when I did visit the hairdresser – wahey!
As I’ve been using all five products together, I can’t really recommend one over the other. I don’t know if one particularly outshines the rest as they’ve been a dream team of rescuers working in perfect harmony.
I might be going a little overboard with my hair therapy, I was in panic hair rescue mode, but the results definitely seem to be worth it.
Well done label.m for being generally legendary once again. I’d trust you with my baby or, better still, my hair!
Need some hair therapy yourself?

I LOVE Label.M. Everything they makes smells like heaven. I won a shampoo/conditioner set 6 months back and have been rationing them for the sheer smell! My hairdresser also gave me one of their conditioning sprays. Love them. If I am in a position to fork out more (which frankly, I should, given my mane is turning hay-like) they’re top of my list.

I love the way you have compared yourself to Worzel Gummidge but not as good at applying eye liner…. This is funny.
I love it when you find a hair product that just works fr you and does everything that it says it would. Thanks for sharing.

I am such a sucker for hair products like these but also sceptical as I am yet to find one that actually does what it says on the tin.
However you write a very convincing review, will def add these to my ‘to try’ list when i have some pennies

But how long did it take of all 5 products used in conjunction to return your hair to glossy loveliness??

Living in Mallorca, after another hot sunny month even looking like Worzel Gummage would be an improvement! Can’t Label M be persuaded to dish out some samples to the most needy, like moi??

I had long hair for 9 years. Curly, metalhead-hippie locks. To keep it soft, I always leave conditioner in. No clue for other hair types tho.
Now that it’s short, I sometimes use product to style it, and not have a fro. But if I want it to be touched, then it’s only conditioner.
And speaking as a guy, i’d rather my hands get stuck then not being able to touch a woman’s hair. Especially if I made it messy. Doing less with the hair also usually looks more attractive than faking it up. It’s like when a woman uses too much makeup.

Ah, if only I’d known about these miraculous products BEFORE I cut my hair….. Currently working a pixie cut, which I care for with Toni & Guy products. X

I bleach my hair (well I have highlights) and so I don’t think your hair could have been in any worse condition than mine after returning from holiday. I’m a dedicated Aussie fan (as it smells so good) and so I turned to that, but as strange as it sounds – I think my hair may have gotten used to its treatment and it no longer works as well as it did. So I may just have to try these out.
